Designing folding cartons: bleed, die-line & print data

A good folding carton starts in the file, not on the press. Getting the die-line, bleed and colour build right from the start saves correction loops and gives a clean result in series.

The key points

• Set the die-line as a separate spot colour on its own layer (non-printing).
• 3 mm bleed all around so no white edges appear at the folds.
• Keep text and logos at least 3–4 mm away from the crease lines.
